So how did Phil make out with his new lures? On Sunday morning, the 28th of April, Phil headed down to the pier at Los Muertos Beach to give these little treasures a sea trial. Nonchalant as ever, Phil expertly cast with his Penn Squidder, the second smallest jig that was painted (by me, his slave with good eye/hand coordination) green and white. Voila, he immediately hooked a 4 pound Sierra. A little interest stirred within the crowd. Second cast, he lost a jig but no big deal, he now has the best supply that he has ever had. (We won't mention the fact that we are one lamp short) Third cast, as he and the group watched the retrieval, Phil gave the jig a little tug and when it did a flip, 3 or 4 Sierra jumped out of the water in pursuit. He hooked a big one and made a whole lot of new friends. Looks like Phil in PV (if he does not succumb to lead poisoning or be evicted) will enjoy some great beach fishing this season. The pier at Los Muertos is a hot spot for Sierra right now and if you can find live bait or talk Phil out of one of his new jigs then you have a great chance to hook one of these delicate fleshed fish.
